Quartz Watches
Quartz Wristwatches
Quartz Watches by Swiss Military by Chrono are analogue quartz watches for everyday wear, work and leisure. They don't require daily winding and are ideal if you want to read the time directly from your wrist without using a smartwatch or additional digital features.
The category includes analogue three-hand watches, solar quartz watches, quartz watches with date display, and sporty, water-resistant models.
When making your selection, pay attention to the specific quartz calibre, power source, case size, legibility, crystal type, water resistance, strap and warranty. These specifications determine whether a quartz watch suits your wrist, your style and your daily life.
Why Swiss Military by Chrono?
4 facts behind every watch we build.
What Advantages Does a Quartz Watch Offer in Everyday Life?
An analogue quartz watch is a practical solution if you want to read the time quickly without having to take out your smartphone every time. It displays the time directly on your wrist and doesn't bring notifications, apps or charging cycles with it.
Quartz watches are particularly suitable if you:
- are looking for a precise and uncomplicated everyday watch;
- want to read the time at a glance;
- don't want to wind a watch daily;
- are looking for a model for the office, business casual and leisure;
- prefer an analogue alternative to a smartphone or smartwatch;
- want to combine a specific design with practical everyday features.
Quartz isn't automatically the best solution for you. If a mechanical movement, manual winding or traditional watchmaking craftsmanship is more important to you, you'll find a suitable alternative in our Automatic Watches collection.
Battery or Solar:
Battery-Powered Quartz Watch
A classic quartz watch is powered by a battery. It doesn't need to be wound daily and runs as long as the battery is charged. After the battery's service life, a battery replacement is required. At the same time, have the seals checked and – for water-resistant models – the water resistance tested.
Solar Quartz Watch
A solar quartz watch uses light for its power supply. It remains a quartz model but is additionally assigned to the Solar Watches category. The solar quartz watches by Swiss Military by Chrono don't require a battery change during normal operation. They recharge automatically as soon as they're exposed to natural or artificial light.
You'll find more information and suitable watches in our Solar Power collection.
Frequently Asked Questions About Quartz Watches
1. What does quartz mean on a watch?
A Quartz Wristwatch is an analogue wristwatch with a quartz movement. It doesn't require daily winding. Depending on the model, the movement is powered by a battery or via a solar power supply.
2. What is the difference between a quartz analog wacht and a chronograph?
A standard watch shows the time: Hours, minutes, seconds. A chronograph does the same, but adds a stopwatch function operated by two pushers. If you prefer a chronograph watch, visit our Chronograph Wirstwatches collection.
3. How accurate is a quartz watch?
The accuracy depends on the quartz calibre used. Therefore, check the manual linked in the specifications for the specific movement on the respective product page. A general statement about all Quartz Watches wouldn't be precise enough.
4. What is a solar quartz watch?
A solar quartz watch uses a quartz movement and obtains its energy from natural or artificial light. Therefore, it's assigned to both the Quartz Watches category and the Solar Watches category. If you like to learn more about solar powered watches, visit our Solar Watches collection.
5. Is mineral crystal the same as sapphire crystal?
No. Mineral crystal, mineral crystal with sapphire coating and genuine sapphire crystal differ in structure and properties. Check the exact specification of the respective model.
For our current Quartz Watches, we use sapphire crystal almost exclusively
and will use it exclusively for future models.
Sapphire crystal is particularly hard and therefore significantly more scratch-resistant in daily use than conventional mineral crystal.
6. What does 10 ATM or 100 m water resistance mean?
This specification describes the structural pressure resistance of the watch. It should always be considered together with the manufacturer's notes and the operating instructions. The number alone is not a blanket recommendation for every water activity.
7. Which watch size suits my wrist?
Compare case diameter, case height and strap width. A 40 mm watch can appear different depending on case shape.
Pictures on the wrist and the specific model dimensions help you with your selection.
8. Which quartz watch is suitable as a gift?
A quartz watch is suitable as a gift if you're looking for an analogue watch that's easy to use and versatile. For the safest choice possible, pay attention to a clearly legible dial, an appropriate case size, a versatile design and the preferred power source.
If you don't know the recipient's wrist circumference or personal style exactly, choose an understated model and check the specifications for strap length, adjustment options and returns before purchasing.
9. How long does the warranty last?
We at Chrono AG provide a five-year international warranty on Swiss Military by Chrono watches. The specific conditions and exclusions can be found in the warranty terms.

What Should You Look for When Buying a Quartz Watch?
1. Swiss Quartz Movements and Calibres
All Quartz Watches in our range feature a Swiss quartz movement. You'll find the specific movement or calibre used on each product page. This allows you to understand the technical specifications of the respective model.
Depending on the model, the product pages also list functions such as a date display and the specific power supply.
We explain the power supply in the Battery or Solar section. The technical data of the movement and the functions are model-dependent and should always be checked on the respective product page.
2. Case Size, Height and Wearing Comfort
A watch must not only look good but also fit your wrist. Our Quartz Watches range includes models with different case shapes and proportions. On each product page you'll find the specific dimensions of the respective model, so you can select the right watch for your wrist and your daily life.
The case diameter influences the visible presence. The case height determines, among other things, how the watch sits under a cuff. Lug shape and strap width also change the actual fit.
3. Legibility and Dial
The most important daily benefit of an analogue watch is a quick glance at the time. Our Quartz Watches combine different dial designs with the respective specific features of the model. Depending on the model, you'll find clear three-hand displays, date displays, high-contrast hands and indices, and luminous material for better orientation in low light.
The date display supports you in everyday life, while well-proportioned hands and indices make the time readable at a glance. You'll find the specific features on the respective product page.
4. Why Do We Use Sapphire Crystal?
The watch crystal protects the dial and affects how long the watch looks well-maintained in everyday use. For our current Quartz Watches, we use sapphire crystal almost exclusively. Sapphire crystal is particularly hard and therefore significantly more scratch-resistant in daily use than conventional mineral crystal. This makes sense if you wear your watch regularly and it can bump against door handles, table edges or other hard surfaces.
Older models may still use K1 mineral crystal with sapphire coating. This crystal offers improved surface protection but is not the same as fully manufactured sapphire crystal. Therefore, we specify the crystal type on each product page.
For the other materials too, you'll find clear, model-specific specifications. Depending on the model, we use stainless steel cases, stainless steel bracelets, leather, rubber or other strap variants, as well as different surfaces and coatings.
5. Water Resistance and Robustness
Our Quartz Watches are designed for different everyday situations. The specific water resistance is model-dependent and is specified on each product page in ATM or metres. This allows you to select the watch to suit your actual use.
A higher water resistance rating doesn't automatically mean that every water activity is permitted. Therefore, always observe the operating instructions for the specific model. The ATM specification describes the technical pressure resistance of the watch and is not a blanket approval for swimming, snorkelling or diving.
The construction of the model also influences robustness. Pay attention to case material, crystal, crown, strap and seals. After opening the case, for example during a battery change, the seals should be checked for water-resistant models.
If your selection prioritises increased robustness, outdoor use or specific water resistance, you can also have a look our Outdoor Watches collection.
6. Design and Area of Use
A Quartz Watch is often worn daily. Therefore, we develop our models for different styles and everyday situations – from classic and understated to sporty and functional. This way you'll find a watch that suits your clothing, your profession and your activities.
Classic models are more suitable for the office, business casual and more formal occasions. Sportier models are better suited to leisure, travel and more active uses. Depending on the model, we combine different dial colours, case surfaces and strap variants. You'll find the specific features on the respective product page.
The right choice isn't necessarily the most eye-catching watch. What matters is that you can wear it frequently and in the situations for which you're buying it.
7. Price, Swiss Made and Warranty
The price of a quartz watch should be judged on the basis of the complete product. This includes not only the Swiss quartz movement but also case, crystal, strap, workmanship, design, origin, service and warranty.
We at Chrono AG are the manufacturer and owner of the Swiss Military by Chrono brand. Our quartz watches are Swiss Made, officially licensed by the Swiss Confederation, and come with a five-year international warranty. Discover more about our brand and its origins on our brand page.
Swiss Made and the five-year international warranty are concrete statements about origin and protection.
